*** LANGUAGE ALERT ***Although there is very little profanity, it does exist. Unlike many writers of today, this writer appears to not be of the opinion that the f-word needs to be used every second or third page. Because it does pop up in two occasions, "The Abducted: Odessa - A Small Town Abduction" would probably be rated PG 13 if it were a film.
WHY THIS STORY WORKS
The writer has committed himself to producing quality stories in which readers can alternate between seeing what transpires from the villain's viewpoint and, then in the next chapter, hunting the perpetrator from the hero's POV. In both, though, the story is told in third-person.
His storytelling craft is evident, as, especially while I was wearing the hat of the heroine, Miriam, I did feel most of the suspense and scene description worked. On occasion I did have a little trouble suspending disbelief, but, overall, I felt, 'This could actually happen this was.'
Also, although there is precious little time for character development, I did develop some empathy for Miriam and Lou.
I also was glad that this story did not have a cliffhanger ending. It seems the writer listened to reviewers of his other stories.
Some readers may desire a closer understanding of the story. There is a prequel and the author provides a link to Book 0 that is free to read. In my case, though, I didn't feel the need, or even the urge, to read the prequel after reading this book. It is a nice gesture, though, to provide the opportunity to others. I saw also that there exists a Book 1 (a story between the free Book 0 and the story that this review pertains to. I did not read Book 1. I also do not feel compelled to pay $2.99 for that. My point is that perhaps some of the questions that arose in my mind as I read this, the conclusion of the series(?), might not have popped up in my mind.
At any rate, I did find the writing style to be pretty good, even if the plot was a bit far-fetched. What he does best is writing suspense. In time,

What a great storyline. Unfortunately there are really crazy people like Treudea out there. Scary thought. Really enjoyed reading this book.
4t rating this whole series was great.Loved how each story flowed so smoothly into the next one. Was surprised with the ending. Can't wait for another book. Please don't stop.
My only problem with this book is the captive girl, April. Through out the book her name changed.... April, Tara . Was this on purpose or was it an error in editing?
Quick read / Full of twists & turns that made we want to know more about Detective Sandoval and her mysterious accomplice. While it was a bit slow at the beginning, that was certainly by design, to mimic the slower way of life in Odessa & by the end, the author quickly picked-up the pace to reflect the desperation in finding the kidnapped little girl. Good stuff!
This book, the final in a series, was very well written. Character development is significant, especially with the protagonists. I found myself thinking about each next move, almost willing Miriam to make a move. I even felt real fear for some of the characters. Bring her back, but let her experience some personal happiness first, please. Look forward to other books by you.
I enjoyed the series but a little disappointed on the ending. A few things didn't make sense regarding the fact that Miriam was still allowed to pit herself in harm's way; final show down with a killer, on her own, no flack jacket and every one being surrounded by explosives all over the place. A few questions seemed left unanswered.....Is this the opening needed for another sequel??
"The Abducted - Odessa" series is a fabulous follow-up to the original "The Abducted" series with the returning protagonist, Miriam being asked to consult and advise on a new kidnapping of another young girl at the behest of the kidnapper himself. What happens next is a twisted, intriguing web of misdirection and red herrings that make this story more complex than you can begin to imagine! Along the way there are a myriad of complex human emotions that arise through various well developed characters that each have an individual voice and their own private and personal histories that leave you guessing...perfect for additional follow-up stories that you would love to read! This 3-book series is a bargain that you won't want to miss and a story that will stay with you after the end!
